R.I.P. Dwight Arrington Myers AKA Heavy D

Today Hip-Hop lost one of it’s Pioneer’s Dwight Arrington Myers the Actor, Rapper, Record Producer, and Singer better known as Heavy D. At press time the cause of Death is still unknown although an associate of Heavy D’s said the rapper had Pneumonia. Click below to hear some of his classic songs and read more.

Myers was born on May 24, 1967 in Jamaica, but his family moved to Mount Vernon, New York, when he was young. He became the leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, a Hip Hop group which included G-Whiz (Glen Parrish), “Trouble” T. Roy (Troy Dixon), and Eddie F (Edward Ferrell). The group put out 4 albums and were the First group signed to Uptown Records which was the home of New Jack Swing style and sound of urban music. It would later be home to artists like Guy, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Christopher Williams, and Soul for Real. Heavy D later went solo, and released 4 more albums and also dove into Acting, Producing and even putting out a Island inspired Album which featured him singing. He will always be remembered and for sure be missed. R.I.P. Dwight Arrington Myers May 24, 1967 – November 8, 2011. Here are a few of his many hits:

As a bonus here is the Hit song by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth titled “T.R.O.Y. They Reminisce Over You” that was dedicated to former member of Heavy D & The Boyz “Touble” T. Roy who fell to his death from a Balcony in 1990.
